Ah, if only it were so simple. 3 and 4 year olds die all the time. They are shot in drive bys in our inner cities. They die of child abuse on Indian reservations - and everywhere else in America, they die before they get to be 3 or 4 if they are female and born in China, they are hacked apart with machetes in Africa, there is no shortage of horror in the world. There never has been and I begin to think there never will be. We are lucky we live in an island of relative sanity - but it is relative, as one can see by the desire of people here to enmesh themselves in the insanity over there. SOMETIMES, you can't save everybody. Sometimes trying to save everybody swamps your lifeboat and you all die.
