Symantec Chief Goes To Oblix
CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — After 15 years as chairman of Symantec Corp., Gordon Eubanks is resigning to become CEO of Oblix Inc., a maker of business directory software.
Eubanks said Tuesday that he will stay with Symantec until a successor is found.
''Oblix is a pioneer that has tremendous potential and upside,'' said.
Eubanks, 52, announced in January that he was launching a search for his own successor to take over the day-to-day operations of Symantec, maker of the Norton brand of computer utilities software.
Eubanks, who wants to bring in an executive from outside the company, said the search is still on and would not say when he would step down or move to Oblix.
The privately held Oblix, based in Mountain View, is a 3-year-old company that produces automated software that is used by corporations like Kinko's and Hitachi to keep track of employees and services over a network.
Analyst Todd Chipman of Giga Information Group said Oblix is a pioneer in the field of directory software, which will be an increasingly important product as companies turn to electronic commerce for revenues.
''Gordon Eubanks brings instant clout to Oblix,'' Chipman said. ''It is an absolute grand slam for them.''
Eubanks founded C&E Software in 1983, and that company purchased Symantec in 1984. |
