The street sent the same message to WCOM when it bought MCI. The stock swooned for quite awhile - I think it went down to the high twenties from about 40. Look where it is now.

The street is always either very short sighted, only looking at immediate profits, or very longsighted, thinking way way in the future (i.e. internet stocks)

Wcom is being clobbered now, too, for even thinking of buying NXTL. The street always thinks the buyer is paying too much.
