The market hegemony Solaris has gained over HPUX, IRIX, AIX, and NT is well-known and well-documented, and you are aware of it. But you can believe whatever you want.
After having spent the better part of 1998 on this message board debating Solaris vs. NT with you and other MSFT supporters, I have neither the time nor the inclination to start up another one.
SUNW has been building momentum as a company for sometime and it took until Oct. 1998 for Wall St. to finally catch on. Since then, the stock has gone up 250% and is still only 50x forward earnings. This rise is due, in large part, to the recognition that Solaris is the premiere O/S available today.
Suffice it to say that it would be difficult, at best, to compare Solaris to a product that hasn't even left the beta lab yet. No one I know of, including Steve Ballmer, has indicated that NT 4 is an "enterprise" O/S, unless, of course, you consider the front office to be part of the enterprise market. NT 4 may have stolen some of Novell's thunder, but it isn't in the same league as Solaris.
For those of you reading this post who are looking for hard information on Solaris vs. NT, read all you can and make up your own mind irrespective of the posts on this or any other message board.
For those of you reading this post who are looking for a bashing fight ala ToySoldier, I'm afraid you're just gonna have to wait a little while longer.
