Absolutely a value investor at the track. Many times I will not bet on the horse that I believe has the best chance to win, opting for one with much more attractive odds relative to what I believe its chances are. IMO trying to determine the pace of the race is the most important factor, but there are other approaches. Percentage of races won and dollars won are relatively minor inputs. There are an extraordinary number of variables, but in the end you are betting against everyone else at the track (and OTB).

You'd probably find it very interesting. I remember reading "Ainsley's Complete Guide to Thoroughbred Racing" as a youth, and you might also ask MB for reco if you want to invest a little time.
