This dedication to international legalism is quite appalling. Criminal campaign? What laws have been broken? No US or European state laws that I know of.
Gosh. Wanting to live in a world which believes in the rule of law is quite appalling. That's sort of bin Laden's philosophy -- law is for wimps, if you think someone is evil, bomb them. If that's the kind of world you want, have at it. I don't.
What laws have been broken? 1) the NATO treaty which the U.S. signed. 2. The U.N. Charter which the U.S. signed. That enough for you, or you want more?
Either you have a world of law, or you have a world without law. I vote for the former. Doing so, I have to expect my country to live within the law if I expect the right to punish those (bin Laden, Yousef, the Lockerbie bombers, etc.) who claim [your precise argument, note] that opposing evil is a right unto itself and that dedication to international legalism is quite appalling.
You also ask what European state laws are being broken. Easy answer: for a start the laws of Serbia. You don't care? You think that's okay? That's what the Lockerbie bombers will say -- they don't have to obey the laws of Germany or Scotland or wherever because they are fighting evil. (The passengers were, I'm sure they would say, collateral damage.)
You have to pick your side. The side of law, or the side which believes it is entitled to punish those it believes are evil without regard to law.
I know which side I'm on. |
