Please correct me if I'm wrong but... NITE is not an online broker.
Or at least not like an E*Trade etc... They provide the back-end
trading to the NASDAQ on behalf of the E*Trades. Therefore, they
don't see the kind of revenue potential as an Online Broker.
NITE gets some nominal fee for every transaction processed on behalf of the Online Broker clients .ie. a market maker. But because they are a behind the scenes company they will not enjoy the publicity the E*Trades get. It's a great business and will do well.... much more stable IMHO. As long as Online trading continues to enjoy growth as an industry NITE will prosper. Again, a safe bet IMHO. I don't think NITE will be as volatile as an E*Trade. If you look at the P/E you will notice that they are quite a bit lower than the typical Online Broker.

An interesting fact is that National Discount Broker is both an
Online Broker as well as a market maker (what NITE is). So NDB
gets the best of both worlds. I've been betting on all 3 for quite
a while... NITE, E*Trade and NDB. NDB will get it's day in the sun,
maybe sooner than later.

It will be interesting to see when they split this.
