P, Do you have any link describing EMC's technology?
Try www.emc.com first. EMC doesn't push the envelope in sheer storage size, IBM does. To build up their storage, EMC uses individual hard drives, whatever the most dense that is available at the moment, (probably 36 Gigabytes now) ganged together in racks of nine or so, times as many racks as they can get in a frij size box. So, they are at the mercy of the IBMs, Seagates, etc. wrt the density of the basic building block, the individual hard drive. EMC's recent agreement with IBM hopefully ensures a source of the densest, which I think IBM with their A+ R&D should have at any time.
Storage is like a new table in a lab or computer room. You may not think you need it, but as soon as it is put there, it gets covered/used.
Each of my files is about 100 Meg. The company can't afford to buy the disk space for me. Now I have to use optical disk (each one is about 5.2 Gig) to back up my files every day.
What on earth are you storing?
