This is a piece of work by the Neiman-Marcus publicity department, It was originally circulated several years ago and has been making the rounds since. It was considered an "urban legend" until the woman who actually thought it up was "outed" at an awards ceremony for marketing types in Dallas. Nice to know the old stunt still has some legs...

P.S. You can see at least 5 versions on the joke thread, dating back a couple of years.
