Buying back stock doesn't help the liquidity either. It simply takes shares of the market and make things even more volatile. Decreasing the volume may simply drop the price further if anyone is looking to unload even a limited amount of shares. Given the value associated with the stock isn't being factored in currently, decreasing the float probably wouldn't help either, i.e. a buy back tends to emphasize or enhance the PE and associated metrics which are already great here.
