American Eagle Outfitters Reports March
Same Store Sales Increase of 33.1%

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq:AEOS - news) today announced total sales for the five fiscal weeks ended April 3, 1999 increased 50.6% to $63.8 million from $42.4 million for the five week period ended April 4,1998. Comparable sales for the 1999 period were up 33.1% compared to the corresponding five week period last year.

Sales for the nine weeks ended April 3, 1999 were $99.9 Million compared to the $66.0 million for the nine week period last year, an increase of 51.3%. Comparable store sales for the nine weeks ended April 3, 1999 increased 33.0% compared to the corresponding nine week period ended April 4, 1998.

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. is a specialty retailer of all-American, casual apparel, accessories, and footwear for men and women between the ages of 16 and 34. The Company designs, markets, and sells its own brand of versatile, relaxed, and timeless classics like AE dungarees, khakis, and T-shirts, providing high quality merchandise at affordable prices.
