THE SURVIVAL PANTRY - Sacramento Bee Newspaper
Here's how to make sure Y2K -- or even a run-of-the-mill power outage -- isn't a disaster in the kitchen.

When you get right down to it, nobody knows what's going to happen when we open our eyes on Jan. 1, 2000. The lights might come on, the refrigerator might be humming along, the furnace might be blowing out a heat wave. Then again, maybe they won't ...

A Gallup poll conducted in March found that 77 percent of the respondents expect minor to no problems. Still,1 39 percent said they plan to stockpile food and water. The survey also found that almost one in four people plan to buy either a generator or a wood stove and three in 10 plan to withdraw a large amount of cash out of their bank accounts.
