China trade deal - an update:

U.S., China close to sweeping trade deal

WASHINGTON - The United States and China appear close to clinching a
wide-ranging but controversial trade deal as President Clinton prepares for a key meeting Thursday with Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji. "Unless some unforeseen disaster intervenes things look very good (for an agreement)," says Robert Kapp, president of the U.S.-China Business Council. A deal open up China's markets to imports of everything from U.S. beef to telecommunications equipment and pave the way for its entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO).
