I find the notion of a metal prototyper somewhat regressive. What technology would make a metal prototyper better than a NC mill? Maybe an NC mill with really smart tool handling and tool path software -- wouldn't need a human to program it. But, if one could develop such a thing, he wouldn't waste his time in the small rapid prototyping business -- he'd have $multiBillion markets ready to receive his product.

One who would hope for a metal prototyper fails to appreciate that SSYS has accomplished a major breakthrough in the rapid prototyping business -- using low-cost, easy-to-work materials as patterns and models in the otherwise costly first step of tooling a moderate to high volume manufacturing process.
