MRKR's 4th will be relevant for the future. The Sims influence through the DNR subsidiary, will largely be gone. Look for all future qtrs. to show substantial increases as the much larger increased share of DNR, plus increased sales in other divisions start to show up. Even though the Sims numbers were strong for DNR, at that time MRKR only owned 20% of DNR. Except for the 3d Qtr, the Sims numbers really did not reflect accurately on the MRKR
numbers. The 4th for 97, compared to the 4th for 96 will be a better test, than comparing the 3d's - Better yet, take out the DNR figures for both periods and just compare the other divisions, then add the DNR as frosting. MRKR/DNR has already been approached by other names in the industry to do OEM boards - reason; a new modern factory, consisten reliable workforce (Utah), and flexible (as needed) production facilities.

P.S. Sims product looks strong - The strength for 97 - 98 will be Burton, Sims, Morrow, DNR/Santa Cruz, K2, Lib Tech & Gnu.

Why do I like Marker stock-

The company is a leader in the ski binding market. With their new technology (of which I have heard), they should further solidify this position. This business alone is quite large and profitable.
They now have a good snowboard step-in binding system.
They have finished one of the finest snowboard mfg facilities in the world, and will be able to produce product for others as well as themselves. With their background, they will not get caught up in the emotional rollercoaster that has caused other snowboard companies so much grief.
Markers name in the winter sports business is extremely strong, and their market share should increase in every area that they participate.
There is a good chance that Marker may make some acquisitions which would further strengthen their position.
The brand is so strong, that any ski shop would seriously hurt themselves by not carrying it. This is a unique position shared by no other - - - -
In many stores across the U.S. the Marker brand is holding over 75% of the binding sales.
Marker owns the finest facilities in both North America and Germany, and has excellent personnel. They even have a "real" person handling the phones.
The one negative for a stockholder is the company position: They let their product speak for itself. No hyping the stock, no B.S. etc. Maybe that could be considered a negative by some, but after seeing many companies rise rapidly and then fall just as fast, maybe earning money the old fashioned way is O.K.

Soon, one of the analysts will start coverage and initiate a buy signal, then a double should be a certainty. Look for good 4th qtr earnings, and possibly very strong 1st qtr earnings.

I have been on the hill a bit the last two weeks and the word is this DNR boot/binding system is the stuff. I talked to some riders who had been waiting to purchase it, and said it was worth the wait.

I found this board by accident while looking for Morrow. In reviewing the old posts, I noticed comments regarding the new DNR step in snowboard boot and binding system. This set-up is great. The tightest, most secure system on the market. Absolutely the best for carving and all mtn riding. Since the carving is becoming so popular on the big mtns, such as Sun Valley, Snowmass, Beaver Creek/Vail etc. this system should sell extremely well. I am not in tune with the Sims/Marker comments, butit looks
like there is a lawsuit about something. Sims has slowed down in the areas where I ride, and it has lost a lot of its image. Is Marker making their own snowboards in Utah? What are they called ? Salomon snowboards have been shown and there is nothing special about them; are Markers different or better ? Volant/Aggression snowboards, has almost perfected their stainless steel snowboard. When this happens, watch out. That could be the best snowboard ever made, and nobody else could copy it (patents
on the Stainless technology) I can see the DNR step-in on an Aggression stainless snowboard making ice grooves 3" deep.

I have been to two trade shows, and three major ski areas in the past two weeks. The following are my observations. At the first Snow Show in Salt Lake City both SantaCruz and DNR were busy as were most of the other major snowboard companies. The new boards look good, and they have something to talk about in their new construction. The DNR step-in system at both the DNR booth and Santa Cruz booth was drawing attention, as were the new Boards produced in the Marker Salt Lake City factory - - I have
been in every major factory in the world, and I can state that there is NOTHING as impressive as this factory. The testing of boards very quickly shows where the competition fails - and most of them do so miserably. These boards, both Santa Cruz and DNR are without a doubt the best as far as construction goes of any in the world. There are some other companies that are making extremely good product but NO snowboard company can match facilities with Marker / DNR.. This may sound like a hype job,
which it is - but for good reason:: I have seen it, and very few others have. At this time the trade has also seen the factory and will be putting their thoughts in print. The DNR boards are showing up very well in European competition, but this falls on deaf ears with the american riders. The Marker people will cover this soon, by buying some top name riders.

I have tried to post interesting points about the company that is on the letterhead of this folder. But, Sims keeps coming up. Sims won some points in court as did Marker. The Sims salespeople were really degrading the Marker company in public before they were told to shut up. I believe that this is now history - Sims has a strong name and a good looking new line, and they will probably have a very good year. We plan on buying quite a few Sims boards. Marker has a stronger name, but not in
snowboards. I believe that they have a better built board line and they control their own production, a step in system and also other very strong business's. If one doubts this, lets fly to Salt Lake City and test the different products. At the Mammoth Trade fair, Sims was busy as was Santa Cruz and DNR, I don't think that either had an advantage. As for the step in systems - The DNR system is the only one that has a pressure system to force the boot down on the board thereby eliminating all
movement. There is no state of the art step-in, but for technical innovation the Santa Cruz/DNR would rate near the top. They are the only one that controls ALL production of the binding and the boot, and that makes it possible to have ongoing improvements. The pre-season orders for snowboard product, I predict will be down in total - but up for a few companies.

Bob

I asked some of the people in the Sims booth if Rndmwalk was around and I got various reactions. As for who is hyping who, I'll let that one rest. Bob

//The boot though was too soft to give good responce in turns. When he goes to turn there is a lag because of the flex of the boot. He said DNR has a real hard boot set up, he didn't care for that either. I 've looked all over the "net' for a review of the DNR step in system, other than the DNR home page. No luck ! Any magazine reviews out there ?//

There are four models of boots. Top model has infinite adjusability. The products have won many european competitions so they must work ? In stores around here that have the DNR or Santa Cruz system, whikch are the same, they are selling. Maybe cause there is a shortage of clicker and swich. There is a very visible demo program for the product at Mammoth Mtn.

Racers are doing remarkably well on Marker bindings. In the World Championship downhill eight of ten were on the binding. The binding was number one in medals in the Championships with 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. Salomon was next with 7.

Racers are using both regular (racing DIN) bindings and Markers with selective control. The Park City women's slalom in November resulted in a Marker selective control sweep; 1,2,3.

Currently Pernilla Wiberg (SWE) and Katja Seizinger (GER) are battling for the women's overall alpine title. Both are on Marker bindings.

<How much of the last reported quarters sales are from the Sims part of DNR? This will be gone next year, right? What kind of return on investment can you get from a hi tech, expensive factory when there is so much overproduction in the snowboard world and the price of boards is dropping. It seems it would be better to have Elan make your boards for $65 a board rather than build a factory. Ride has a great factory but who knows if they can
even keep their workers busy. Ride closed their binding
manufacturing facility and decided instead to have them made in the orient.>>

Remember that the Marker qtr involved not only the DNR but the other Marker divisions. I would expect that the Sims part would at the most be 15 % of the total, but that is pure conjecture. The factory was on line for some time, and when one sees it, it is apparent that it is set-up to produce much more than just snowboards. The presses are perfect for wakeboards,, etc. with jig re-tooling. Marker's worldwide wintersport involvement makes
them a very likely candidate for those looking for a more reliable OEM supplier, and offers either European or American sourcing.. The DNR system is being made in Markers German factory so that was a facility that was already on line. The 4th qtr should show a more direct indication of how much the Sims income was as a percentage of the Marker total.

As for my comment on graphics, it was meant to show that a test graphic can be put together very quickly,. not the final graphic, but having said that- a silk screen process which is used by quite a few is a relatively quick process. I have seen an entire ski line graphics put together in one day and the finished product the next. Depends on what you want, and the quality of the graphics. When I see some of the new boards with no graphics,
just color, I wonder - -.

The new (Trade show issue) of Snow Country Business - "Marker's image as a innovator in binding technology was already secure and now will only burn brighter". Other comments about increased market share in their clothing division, plus their already dominate position which is increasing in "Performance" bindings, and the new snowboard intro's (DNR & Santa Cruz), seem correct. Marker should show greatly increased income for the 97 - 98
season. New Logic1 system with SLC, should dominate high end market.

actually I just made all this stuff up in my spare time, to get you suckers to buy the stock !!!
