Van Sun/CP say Bid.Com CEO says market goes Dutch

Bid.Com International Inc BII
Shares issued 38,963,434 Apr 7 close $26.80
Thu 8 Apr 99 In the News
The Vancouver Sun reports in a Canadian Press dispatch in its Thursday
edition that the hammer seems to be coming down on Bid.Com International,
the Canadian Internet auctioneer whose stock price soared 34 per cent on
Wednesday. Bid.Com, worth only 56 cents a share last October, rose $6.90 to
close at $26.80 on Wednesday, on volume of eight million shares on the
Toronto Stock Exchange. The trading volume represents 20 per cent of the 39
million shares outstanding. The stock has more than doubled from $12.40
since the start of April, and Internet chat groups are agog with
predictions of $30 by the end of the week, and beyond that, $50 or more
after the shares are listed on Nasdaq. Paul Godin, Bid.Com's chairman and
chief executive, attributes the recent rise partly to the market's
recognition of the value of the company's Dutch auction software. He
continues to refuse to comment on persistent rumours that Bid.Com could be
taken over by eBay.
