But presupposing that a internet network will eventually replace-not substitute-politicians as the human element within a democratic framework like your constitution for example, the election process as we experienced it over the past century will fall to the wayside because people will vote from the confines of their homes on all political/economical and sociological relevant issues via their PC or via remote control from their sofas or garden huts.

I do not believe in fantasies, and I tend to be practical... most of the time...

You and I have basic differences, however it appears that we do have a considerable common ground.

I am not sure what is the origin of such, perhaps the fact that we both in most probability grew up without the heavy influence of Your Highness Mickey Mouse, of the noble house of McDonalds, yielding an incredible environment that only is possible in the Magical Kingdom of Fantasyland.

Therefore....

It is my opinion that mainly due to that, we may have been able to deal with reality in a different way, that I assume a lot of the "children of the Flower Children" have.

What I mean to say, that the so call "American Dream" has not been so easy to the newer generation past the "Leave it to Beaver crowd", "Father Knows Best" and the rest of the other highly cultural (!) TV programming of the time.

I believe that our common enemy.... the dreaded Politician has always been seen as "suspect" at best... in our eyes.

Whereas here in Mickey Mouse land, it seems that politicians have been "trusted" more, at least by the "common honest good people of the land".

Of course, such view has eroded progressively since about the sixties....

Coincidentally, I guess it was at this time that Marihuana, (please note that there is no Juana in the name of the plant), became more... er, popular...

I don't give a rat's rear if they say that the drug may have "medicinal" properties.... other than to numb you away from whatever pain you may be under.... I still think that in the end, it will fry your brain... Of course the more "hard core" drugs, will do taht and more.

I personally, do not touch any of these "medicines", both legal nor illegal, as I was lucky enough by being highly influenced by a family that possessed a fanatical dedication to sports.....

yes, before sports became influenced by all the "medicines" that now are under.

So perhaps, I am not the best judge to express opinions here....

My point is, that after the 60's (and because of), the use of drugs became not only more prevalent, but more "accepted"...

To the point of obfuscating the mind in accepting that it would be ok to have a president who "did not inhale"... I mean if you can accept such an excuse... then eating any other crap that the politicians can dream of becomes far easier....

Including but not limited to.... A secretary of State, who claims to be an expert in Eastern European countries... saying with the authority of a school teacher giving instructions to grade students the rules of "engagement" during recess....

That....

A war can be won by using air power alone... (since we do not want to upset the image of the US Army as the way to get a college education for the less privileged ones...) I mean, killing and dying is only for terrorist and Hollywood.... nicht war ?

Anyway.... I am ranting now...

The real point Eddy, is that politicians will get away with anything they want, NOT because a good portion of the population is on drugs... either the illegal ones (the young part of the population), or legal ones, (by the older crew, having an army of Psychiatrist administer them, under the premise that the general American population is either hypochondriac, or depressed.... or both).

Which one is worse ?.... not to mention that even before, the worship of alcohol, (in extreme use), is as numbing to the mind as any of the current menu of available hallucinants, (except the newer ones, must do the job "quicker", after all we live in the age of "instant coffee").

See, that's the problem they don't take the time to brew a good Colombian Supremo.... hmmm I guess that puts me under the category of "drug user"... well... I only "do it" in the mornings.

The real problem is education... or rather lack of. The main villains are:

1. The TV industry infatuated with idiocy, imbecility, and moronosity...

2. The Hollywood gang who not only are a bunch of narcissists, but in addition they see themselves as powerful barons, who can wield policy in matters they know nothing about...

3. The Religious Army and its different divisions, a few samples are Field Marshall Jerry Falwell, Panzer Division Supremo Pat Robertson, The local lieutenants of IL Duce of the Vatican, and a sundry collection of lesser Fuhrers who believe quite adamantly, that all the ills of humanity can easily be solved by the sheer belief in the faith in gods, (of different denominations, of course, and in spite of clear evisence to the contrary), the more radical ones, have a hint of white supremacist, who strongly ignore, that their hero supreme, [old Chucho], was not of Jewish origin. These are the real evils not only of the American mind, but of the human mind, regardless of nationality. Personally I do not believe in "nationalities", such is a politician credo created with the purpose of conquering the neighbor.... "in the name of god, flag and country...."

Don't believe me just read a little history.

In short, after this long post, I believe that if people were to free themselves of these poisoning influences, the politicians would have a harder time of getting away with what they do.

Luckily, we have proof that can be done... That is the reason that America, (the ideal), was created in the first place, we just need to have our memories refreshed a little and realize that it is possible to not only "dream" but have the objectivity to execute our dreams... under a system of Laissez Faire.

Now this is where the Internet may be the medium to succeed in allowing the "We the people" ideal be spread to the rest of the world...

In spite of the fact, as I indicated above... that I do not believe in fantasies.

As for the drug addicts.... well, so long they do not become violent, those in the business of healing, must find a more reasonable solution... not that I look favorably in the use of drugs... but the so called "War on Drugs" is a total failure... not to mention idiotic.

Prohibition never did work... But the solution must have the user as active participant in WANTING to be cured...

My opinion.

Meanwhile... Market is open and I must go take some money away from some of the drug addicts... er.. no, no, I meant "investors"... he he he he...
