Siemens and Philips Receive $7
Million Joint Contract to Begin PACS
Projects At Seven VA Hospitals

ISELIN, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Medical
Systems, Inc. and Philips Medical Systems North America have
received a $7 million joint contract from the Veterans Administration Acquisition Center to provide
initial phases of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) installations at six southern
California VA hospitals and one in Las Vegas. The project further implements the Veterans
Integrated Network System.

Siemens' portion of the contract is to provide workstations and serve as the systems integrator. The
company is providing reading workstations and an Archive Server with data base management,
including RAID-based short-term storage capacity. Philips is providing CR (computed radiography)
equipment at each site, a film digitizer, and printing capabilities; RIS interfaces to the CR units are
also being provided.

''Siemens has broad experience in CR softcopy reading and is a leading PACS vendor offering
clearly defined project management and change-management for PACS/CR implementation,'' said
David Brown, national sales manager, PACS department. ''The Veterans Administration's decision
was based on obtaining best-in-class products from two acknowledged world-class suppliers who
would work well together.''
