X, your experiences with MENSA are consistent with mine, at least in New Orleans. I have toyed with the idea of exploring MENSA here in the D.C. metro area, because they have so many SIGs (special interest groups), but always come to the conclusion that my time would be better spent at a library or a museum or attending a lecture on something that interests me. My children have expressed mild interest when I have suggested getting them involved, but the MENSAns I have known just turn me off. I think it has something to do with not having anything going personality-wise but a high IQ.
