* BOEING CO expects to cut another 6,700 jobs from its
commercial-jet group by the end of the year, the Wall Street
Journal reported. It quoted Alan Mulally, president of the unit
which employs 111,400 people, as saying the company has lowered
its target for total employment at the division by the end of 1999
to 93,700, thanks largely to success in controlling overtime
payments. The company, trying to rebuild investor confidence,
continues to cut its workforce, focusing heavily on restructuring
and lightening engineering and management ranks in hopes of having
a lower percentage impact on union jobs, the newspaper said. It
said the unit plans to deliver about 480 jetliners in 2000.
