RE: Uses of GaAs. While I don't know anything about your specific example, I do believe that there are many "appropriate uses" of GaAs semiconductors. The best example is the transmission of RF & microwave signals - meaning cell phones, satellite communications, etc, the very markets which CLTK pursues. GaAs chips are becoming very common in the "RF front end" of wireless handsets. Other uses: cable TV, in both the transmission system and the set-top box (that's a specialty of ANAD). Also, as I mentioned before, high speed fiber optic networks - VTSS and TQNT make GaAs transceivers, which could be thought of as on- and off-ramps to fiber networks.

People who advocated the use of GaAs use to get a lot of grief - much of it deserved. But in the last few years there has been no question that GaAs has its own little niche. Right now, that niche is maybe only 1% of the overall semiconductor market. But that works out to around $1-2 billion, which leaves room for a handful of companies to post good numbers.
