Thanks for the link!

Mel Brooks re-used this line when he made "Blazing Saddles". (Don't get me wrong - I love that movie also). It's unfortunate that so many think THAT is the source of this, all too frequently repeated, phrase.

I was talking to the cretin-agers that live behind me last summer. I was attempting to negotiate with them and get them to stop shooting bottle rockets into my pool and prevent my wiener dog from having a heart attack. The communication wasn't going too well (I guess I over-estimated my ability to negotiate with 9 drunk, retarded teenagers). I skipped ahead to the final piece of desperate dialog which went something like this:

"Stop shooting bottle rockets into my pool and I promise not to come over there and drown you!" (Negotiations 101 - Corleone University.)

One of the dolts yells back "What we got here is a failure to communicate". I responded with something to the effect "I guess we got a Cool Hand Luke fan". Of course they made fun of me and said I was an idiot because if I was smart (like them) I would have known that this is a line from a "Guns' and Roses" song.

I felt so deprived!
