I respect everyone's opinion on Linux, it has some advantages. But for now, it couldn't run a network (business) with any size. There isn't enough applications that run on it. WordPerfect is the only word processor that works on it, in fact, Word Perfect is the only major office product it does support. Given time, it might be something, but I will stick to the fact, it will never pass Microsoft.
Linux's O/S is much worse than NT. You have to be an expert to even use Linux with any success. In the real world, there is Windows NT, Novell, SUN and then everyone else. Linux is popular, but it won't take over any of these.
I worked at the following places in the past year, WellsFargo/Norwest, GMAC, State of Minnesota (DOT), and a few others, and not one of these companies use Linux or even plan to use it. They use Unix, but not Linux.
I guess we are pointing out good points both good and bad about Linux. I guess the major issue is that Linux is HOT, and Navarre is going to sell their software. As a shareholder, I am happy we are up 75 cents because of it, and that is the key. But, the talk was so high about how big of a deal this is for Navarre, but it isn't. You can buy Linux anywhere...or download for free. I suspected we would see a $1.5-$2 swing in the stock price today and we would finish down. I'm glad I am wrong on one point. |
