OT: Analysts' predicament: Chuzzlewit - this is Kathy, Arthur's friend in between jobs and so observing up close trading versus investing. For a few months I've been reading SI comments and hearing about individuals' approaches (mental and financial) to this market. I saw one post you made on Tuesday -- a reply to Scott -- in which you talked about the analysts' dilemma of being pressured to prove success based on a very short-term window. There was a nice article in the Sunday NYTimes Business section (actually in their quarterly supplement on Mutual funds) which interviewed Value fund managers. Your comment reminded me of this article. You might enjoy reading it (should be avilable on NYTimes.com) Their lament is well taken. They feel penalized for looking at the long term.... The internet stocks have been fascinating (their blend of market psychology with potential revenues, smart alliances, etc...) --- I wonder whether the olden days value funds will be 'rediscovered'. I guess there's a Thread for Loral... wondering about satellite communications as an adjunct to the wireless world. I read recently about wireless internet with the speed of DSL (but cannot remember which company supplies this) ANyway, most of these great new technological features tie back to, ultimately, using a computer. And it all ties back to Dell, whose stock I own and it's a stock and company I believe is great. It's been a fascinating time, reading and hearing so much. I enjoy your posts, edamo, scott, and many many others. Yours truly, Kathy O.
