<The IA64 VLIW architecture has some inherently dangerous features to it. It allows user code to do instruction scheduling. It has not been proven that it is possible to build a safe system/network architecture around IA64. There will be many, many issues to resolve before IA64 can move into Sun's market space.> How is this different from high-end RISC processors whose compiler optimizations can also affect system stability? I don't see the difference, except for the fact that RISC compilers are more mature than IA-64 compilers. Tenchusatsu
