If you don't mind, let me give you some factual information about X2.

1. It is a proprietary protocol developed by USR. It is NOT a
STANDARDIZED set of protocols like V.34 for 28.8, V.34+ for 33.6, or
V.32 for 14.4. If and when X2 is proven to be a functional protocol
then it may be made the standard.

2. Other companies are beginning to develop their own flavor of X2 and
the wars will soon begin as they did for 28.8.

3. USR has only had one protocol which they introduced become the
accepted international standard. That was V.34+. These standards are
set by the CCITT. They now have a new moniker, but I can't remember
it.

4. As of this date, X2 has not been field tested. This has ben
developed and tested under labortory conditions. No one really knows
what will happen when it starts interacting with Telco circuits and
switches. For instance, do you connect at 28.8 or 33.6 EVERY time you
connect. Most likely not. Because the connection speed is predicated
upon the quality of the lines between modems. And that path (series
of lines and switches between modems) can change on any given day.

5. Once the international standard has been set, InfiNet will endevor
to support it. It would be foolish to not do so. It would be equally
foolish to throw a ton of money at equipment that would support a
flavor of X2 but be incompatible with the international standard.

6. No ISP supports X2. All the stuff that we are reading is
gennerally hype being put out by USR. USR is a fine company and we
ourselves use lots of their stuff. But right now X2 is mostly smoke
and mirrors.

7 "Just around the corner" is at least a year and could be as long as
two years. 28.8 standardization in V.34 took over 2 years.

8. I know what they are saying on the USR web pages, but look closely
at what is truly being said... Quoted from USR X2 Home Page.
