An @home story: I called InterMedia, my CATV company this morning.
Me: Are offering cable modem service yet? (I live in Athens, GA)
Jamie: We sure are, but let me see if it is available in your neighborhood. What is your phone number?
Me. 555-5555
Jamie: I can take your order now, but I cannot make an appointment. We will not be able to provide you service for at least 30 days.
Me: OK
Jamie then asks me about my computer, etc. etc. Cost $50 install, $10/mo modem rental, $29.95/mo service.
4 hours later:
Jamie calls me.
Jamie: Mr. DownSouth, we can install your @home service as early as next Wednesday, if you like. Would you like to make an appointment?
So I did, but I have to pay Uncle Sam some big bucks. So I am getting @home May 5!!!
BTW, the cable modem has three e-net ports. So I can hook up to three PCs to the service. To add more, I have to provide my own e-net hub.
