The problem with your hypothesis is that if they raise prices, they will not sell box one.

Michael, this is silly. You make it sound like the ONLY boxes being sold by anyone on the planet are E-machine bargain budget specials. This is just not true, not even close to being true. INTC raising prices will simply cut into those gutter low-end box makers margins. Since few play here, few will be affected.

Of course, if you only look at the headlines, you would think
Toshiba is cutting back instead of exiting 64 Mbit chips to produce more 128 Mbit chips.DRAM will be cheap forever.


DRAM will take longer to shake out since there are more large players. But eventually (2 to 3 years) it will. They can only bleed for so long until the weaker drop out. At this time prices stabilize and indeed rise. Its a commodity, remember. Only this is the last cycle. Once the big boys leave this time, it will be for good. The ones left will turn out to be very profitable. And yes, it will mean higher PC prices.
