the volume concerns me. someone knows something or thinks they know something.

If you look at the intra-day volume chart, the big drop came at the open on very low volume. Most of the big volume came on board on the move back up. I think that the big move down early attracted the short term traders (the stock was obviously oversold), who then proceeded to ride it up and down until the close. I still think that the early move was just about socking it to all the software stocks, a continuation of the late in the day sell off from Wed. JMHI
