4/08/99 - Peruvian mining exports rose 54.5%

The Peruvian mining exports rose 54.5% between January, 1998 and January, 1999, to US$289mil. Gold exports over the period increased from US$46.6mil to US$178.4mil. Copper and zinc exports fell 3.5% and 26.2%, to US$58.7mil and US$26.5mil, respectively. The country"s gold production rose 31.1% between February, 1998 and last February, to 8,936 kg. The copper production rose 4.9% over the period, while the zinc one rose 7.5%, the lead one rose 3.8%, the tin one rose 2.9% and the silver one rose 0.8%. The iron production, though, fell 32.6%. Southern Peru"s copper production rose 15.6% due to a production increase at the Cuajone mine. Minera Cerro Verde"s copper production rose 31.9%.
