While ATM may be growing, it won't explode because ethernet keeps getting faster & faster, cheaper & cheaper, better & better. Gigabit (billion bits/sec) ethernet is taking off now (sales are coming at the expense of ATM): nwc.com Terabit (trillion bits/sec) ethernet is right behind (obviate the need for ATM): interactiveage.com So, LSI is doing the right thing by concentrating on ethernet. Check out eye candies on communication products page (no terabit stuff, though): lsilogic.com Also just one mention of "CDMA" in entire site (just threw that word out with GSM?): lsilogic.com While GSM is nice & currently popular in Europe, CDMA is the one to explode worldwide soon, for at least 5 yrs (more like >10?). Qualcomm, the CDMA monopoly, designs & fabs out CDMA ASICs. Hmmm, shouldn't LSI help out with the fat pie here? When that happens, can anyone say: "playstation deja vu"? Let's hope the tireless LSI Research pulls out a giant pie eater from the hat.
