* IBM CORP Chairman Lou Gerstner was paid a total of $13.7 mln in
1998, or nearly 70% more than his prior year's compensation,
according to IBM's annual proxy. But the leader of the world's
largest computer company received no new stock options, a
long-term reward he has been granted in prior years. From previous
grants, Gerstner stands to reap IBM stock worth hundreds of
millions of dollars. In its annual proxy statement to
shareholders, IBM disclosed that Gerstner received a base salary
of $1.87 mln, a bonus of $7.5 mln and long-term incentives of
$4.15 mln and other compensation of $204,000.
