Joseph: Investing is not only about money its about time, too. If, like me, you invested in COMPAQ from about July last year, doubled up in October, and then saw a rapid rise of 125% in three months, then sold near the top, then you can say that COMPAQ has been a better investment than most.

Even if, like me, you bought in again at $41 six weeks ago, there has been and is plenty of opportunity to bring the average price down to the low 30's, just in time for the next ride up.

If however, you got in late 1997 and have sat in it all this time, that's the price you pay for a passive investment strategy. But even there, COMPAQ will prove to have been a good long term investment. I'm sure all the gloomsters will be congratulating themselves when CPQ arrives at $100 some time in the first half of next year.
