I bought some AWRE after a suggestion from Pat at the end of '97 at 9 something. The disproportional internet like growth of AWRE now, while I certainly don't object, seems to be based on hype and misperception of patents and rollouts.

I believe jeremic has pointed to some of the misinformation running rampant concerning AWRE.

I hear talk of TXN suing AWRE on infringment of it's AMATI patent. Part of the problem seems to be the current vanishing of all discussion and announcements of what was the TI/Amati ADSL DSP implementation or the infamous MOT chip. Actually Alcatel seems to be conquering America.

In the absence of knowledgeable commentary from the likes of Jim Wilkinson and Pat Mudge, a good deal of ADSL discussion has been replaced by hype and non-cerebral processing. I attribute the level of confusion to be stemming from the fact that Both AMATI and AWARE:

1. have five letters,
2. start with A,
3. have an "a" in the middle
4. "m" upside down is a "w".

The Amati thread was basically a knowledgeable thread. Most of the ADSL threads seem to have become opinion, hype and graffitti.

Hoping AWRE will become the next EBAY,
