Consumers to Experience Next Level of Total Annihilation(tm)
Gaming with Galactic Wars(tm) -- Cavedog Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of GT Interactive Software Corp. (Nasdaq: GTIS), today announced the beginning of the open, public beta test for its new online gaming community Boneyards(tm) on April 8. Initially designed to support the company's award-winning game Total Annihilation(tm), Boneyards will be compatible with Cavedog Entertainment software titles as well as select GT Interactive games such as Wizard Works' Deer Hunter.
Cavedog Entertainment's Boneyards promises to revolutionize the online gaming community by providing players with persistent world experiences. The heart of Boneyards lies in the metagame, a grand-scale cooperative, multiplayer effort designed specifically for each product. Total Annihilation's Galactic Wars(tm), the first metagame designed for Boneyards, will offer players a chance to participate in an ever-changing struggle for control of a galaxy between the game's two warring factions, the Arm and the Core.
Gameplay for Galactic Wars takes place across a Galactic Map composed of 50 to 70 interconnected worlds that are evenly divided between the Arm and the Core. The planets where Arm and Core sectors meet are in contention. It is on these planets that the struggle for control begins. Players select planets to contend for, then enter multiplayer battles with one or more human opponents in order to determine the fate of each planet. At the end of each day, scores are tallied to determine which planets have changed hands, come into contention, or remained safe. The ultimate goal of Galactic Wars is to penetrate the opposing force's sector and take over the opponent's home world.
Boneyards allows players to challenge specific opponents and initiate multiplayer battles. Boneyards also features a ladder and ranking system, arenas for chatting, custom user profiles, company-sponsored tournaments, weekly reports from the Galactic Wars front, and more.
"Gamers are constantly looking for new and better experiences. That's exactly what Boneyards is all about," said Ron Gilbert, co-founder and creative director of Cavedog Entertainment. "The addition of the Galactic Wars metagame was the next natural step. We've provided Total Annihilation players with something that is completely new to the real-time strategy genre -- a persistent world."
"Cavedog Entertainment has once again raised the standards with Boneyards. Total Annihilation is an amazing multiplayer game, and the addition of Galactic Wars makes it even more exciting. By participating in battles you have the ability to change the course of the war for control of the galaxy. That alone was enough to get me hooked," said Michael Todd (aka Brave Sir Robin), Boneyards beta tester.
Owners of the original Total Annihilation game can visit Cavedog Entertainment at www.cavedog.com.
