I am aware that they may be negotiating to sell this unit.
I am also aware that under their plan to break up into 3
separate publicly traded units that much of the long-term
debt was also to be placed under this unit. The stock
will not drop by 1/3 or whatever if this unit is sold. If
this unit is sold at a perceived discount to its business
value, then GIC stock will fall. If the unit is sold at a
perceived premium, then GIC stock will rise. Both of these
events would be short-term impact. If the unit is sold in
any event, cash and/or stock received from the transaction
would accrue to the balance sheets of GIC or baby GIC's.
There's just as much a likelihood that acquisition of the
semi unit will be acquired after the breakup --- this likelihood
has been bandied about in the press (New York Times).
