IBM and Compaq will let AMD go out of business

Probably a good idea for them. Compaq has really munched in their deals with AMD, and IBM did the best they could to overcharge AMD for foundry services. You would think these guys would understand the advantage of having a stable duopoly or a good sound monopoly setting a level playing field for PC makers. The attempt of CPQ and IBM to destabilize mpu prices has robbed them of most of their PC profits. The only PC firm making real money on PC's is DELL and all of their mpu's are made by Intel. Compaq has cannibalized itself. Dell hasn't.
