Fox Moves Into DVD Through Direct Distribution

LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--April 8, 1999--Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) International Thursday announced that it will enter into the DVD market beginning in September with the release of "Titanic," followed by a slate of Fox's top film titles.
Fox's DVD products will be distributed directly into the international marketplace by the company's subsidiary offices in Australia, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom.
"We have been closely watching the development of DVD internationally," commented Stephen Moore, president, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment International. "Its initial success and continued growth are evidence of the strategic importance of digital video in the marketplace.
"I am confident the time is right to establish our DVD presence and believe in the proven success and strength of our own Fox distribution channels to lead us in achieving this objective."
TCFHE International's September launch will be led by James Cameron's "Titanic." "We expect the release of 'Titanic' will pave the way for DVD internationally, in the same way it broke new ground for the sell-through video business, where it established itself as the No. 1 video of all time," stated Moore.
The "Titanic" release will be followed with a November slate of selected titles including "The Siege," "Die Hard 1 & 2" and "Speed 1 & 2." Also scheduled for later release are "The X-Files Movie," "Romeo and Juliet," "Ever After: A Cinderella Story," "Independence Day," "Braveheart" and the "Alien" series.
