I second the motion of limiting the header to something like 3 lines, thus encouraging the thread creator to pile it on in the 1st post in response. Perhaps they could even be given a 15 minute exclusivity window to ensure an opportunity to get the additional information in.

Doesn't do much for existing threads, though. I've asked on a few occasions to have old, no longer pertinent headers truncated, and I don't recall a single instance where it wasn't done.
