George: I would differ with your comment that volatility has increased in the recent past. Dollar value certainly but what about percentage? I would position myself as one who thinks the volatility has not increased as much as it could. Add up all the influences - the increased visibility from the media, increased participation of individuals through self directed IRAs and 401Ks, herd and panic mentalities, the exponential increase in transaction speed for the man on the street (and Wall Street itself) brought on by computers and the Internet - Things could be a whole lot worse than they are.
