Del Tell us about the charger. Does it have a thermistor?
Is it voltage sensitive? Is it simply a timer? Or does it have any active controls whatever? That seems to be a good price for the combo Although if it is a really basic one you can pick up a used one for a buck or two. All kinds of people have given up trying to recharge their Ni-Cads.

That is good news about another supplier of batteries. Were they the advanced 1500 mah or the old 1250's that Radio Shack tries to foist on the unsophisticated consumer? Are these destined for the freezer too? I bought a 9 volt NiMH battery at Radio Shack in Ohio for test purposes. It was only rated at a paltry 150 mah.

Inco, the large nickel producer is once again stating on page 25 of it's A/R in no uncertain terms that the NiMH battery market is growing rapidly. They are working to develop new nickel sintering powders, extra fine powders, nickle foams and felts. Value added nickel products include powders, foams, flakes, and nickel coated graphite and carbon fibres. These specialty nickel products accounted for 15% of the companies revenues in 1998 (not all the products had to do with batteries). The A/R also states that these products sell at premium prices and are less sensitive to commodity forms of nickel. From the same page they say that they "have developed a an environmentally friendly method to manufacture spherical nickel hydroxide for electric vehicle batteries. This is a new product for Inco, broadening our position in the electric vehicle battery market."

Of particular note is the picture on that page of the Honda VV. Read this on the crapper if you dare.

" The Honda VV "hybrid" vehicle will go on sale in North America in the fall of 1999. The two-seat coupe uses a motor powered by ADVANCED NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE BATTERIES to boost the performance of its 1.0 litre engine to 1.5 litres.

Capitalization of certain terms added by myself. To me this looks like a large royalty stream is about to kick in. Also it appears that though costs for some of our raw materials have dropped we are still paying a very good premium for them which over the next few years will drop as the market becomes more competative and indeed as the battery industry is able to negotiate for larger orders.
