WaveRider Signs US$2.5 Million Contract with Wireless Connect
TORONTO, ONTARIO--
- Unique application provides Jamaica with wireless technology and the potential for nation-wide Internet connectivity -
WaveRider Communications Inc. (OTC BB: WAVC - news), a leading global provider of wireless Internet products, has announced Wireless Connect of
Kingston, Jamaica ordered over US$2.5 million worth of products over the next 24 months.
WaveRider value added reseller and System Integrator, ICM Corp. of Denver, Colorado designed the wireless solution for Wireless Connect and have successfully
installed two NCL135 systems in Jamaica.
The contract calls for NCL135 wireless IP routers, LMS170 end user modems and LMS270 systems. Delivery of the NCL135 and LMS170 products is planned
for June and July. The initial application will provide wireless data connectivity between 35 off-track be tting shops and the main office. This network will become
the backbone for future Jamaica-wide wireless Internet access using the LMS270 system, planned for early 2000.
''They would normally require dedicated lines which cost approximately US$300 per month to connect the purchase points at the shops to the main office,'' says
ICM Corp.'s international sales manager Graham Schnare. ''By using WaveRider's wireless technolog y, Wireless Connect will own their network, saving
dedicated line costs.
The ability to have real time information will change this industry which has traditionally relied on couriers and microfiche. We believe this application will provide a
model solution for other companies in the Caribbean.''
This agreement confirms WaveRider's commitment to its innovative distribution strategy and represents a solid example of a typical wireless rollout using WaveRider
products. The NCL135 IP routers provide initial high speed, line of sight links, followed by the LMS170, which does not require line of sight and will provide the
final links to the shops. The LMS270 system will also provide Internet connectivity to end users throughout Jamaica.
