Bits and bytes and everything nice. Teach me the lexicon, please.

56k = 56kbps = 56 kilobits per second.

If it was 56kBps, would that be kilobytes per second. Is 2.1GB hard drive is 2.1 billion bits, or bytes. Or is it a 2.1Gb hard drive.

Is the translation in the capital vs. lower case? Or is bits always used except in denominations over 100 million? Talk about inflation.

If I want to move a 7.6 meg file across this network thingy, how long does that take at the various network speeds. Is it 7.6MB at 100Mbps, in bytes, that's 7,600,000 divided by 10,000,000, .76 seconds for the 100 Mbps and 7,600,000 divided by 100,000 for the phone line network - 76 seconds? uh oh, I'm getting confused

Thanks, Spots.

I guess I could run that darn wire. It'll have to be outside, though. Might as well just re-side the house using spaghetti.
