Re. Dell Inspiron.

Several months ago I bought a DELL Inspiron 3500 (the light-weight sibling of 7000), and I love every aspect of it including the built-in modem.

This computer has travelled with me to some far corners of the world (such as the remote Canadian rockies and Asia) where the phone systems weren't nearly as sophisticated as the US equivalents. but I found no problem receiving data at the expected rate and have been perfectly happy with it.

Just wish to share my own experience with a Dell Inspiron.
