BGR - EXACTLY! THREAD - Please pay attn to posts like this one and try not to panic...DELL WILL BE FINE AND EARNINGS REPORT WILL PROVE IT. Compaq took a run at the direct model and failed, as they confessed. This derailed them from their "business as usual," as they pissed off their dealers and lost their focus while trying something new which turned out to be harder to copy than they had anticipated. It's like turning the titanic to miss the iceberg once it has already crashed...damage is already done and it is hard to recover. CPQ may recover as a company, but NOT as a formidable competitor to DELL...IMO that competition is about over...there must be a lot of head rolling at CPQ this week (or at least there SHOULD be). How irresponsible of a company of this stature to fail to warn until a few days before earnings...you know they are in a BIG MESS there. Also, remember that DELL teamed up with IBM and started Gigabuys for good reasons...and the shoes will begin to drop on those plans soon. DELL is smart mgt, not the CPQ status quo that a Merrill type of brokerage recommends. ANYONE WHO SELLS DELL BEFORE EARNINGS THIS QUARTER IS FOOLISH IMO, since I believe that this Q will be very different than the others...less preceeded by hype and more preceeded by fear...but the numbers will impress and DELL will rise again. BTW, has anyone reported this "PIGMAN" character to the webmistress yet? If not, I will be happy to do so. Happy Weekend, GRANOLA
