Like the Godzilla movie of last year tried to show, I have to say that yes, SIZE matters. I just returned from a pre-opening party at the new BJs in Woodland Hills, and it is the MOTHER of all BJ's. It was quite gratifying to see it all done up and finished, especially after having seen it at various stages in its construction. The place is just huge. The bar area TV screen looks more like a cinema screen. From one end of the place, the other end is just too far to actually see!! My wife was particularly impressed that there were bathrooms at both the southwest and northeast corners of the restaurant. Plus they are putting the finishing touches on a big party room with an outdoor patio with awning.

The staff and servers were remarkably adept and experienced--our server had been commuting to the Arcadia store for the past month for training and some regular shifts. The whole place had a big party atmosphere and everyone was having a great time.

Paul and Jerry were impeccable hosts, and showed my wife and I around to see it all up close and personal. The food was predictably excellent--we had never had the calzone before but now it is added to our list of favorites.

I look forward to the new locations revenue hitting the top and bottom line. Hopefully the somewhat conciliatory tone of the last Pizza Loca filing (or was it what Bob had reprted to us?) will help allow the focus to remain on locking in new sites for expansion, and growing same store sales as well. As far as this new Big Mama BJ's goes, all I can say is build more...and they will come.

For full disclosure I should admit that I had not only a beer but also a Pizookie within two hours of posting.
