The effort to compare Waco, Ruby Ridge, the death penalty or abortion with the grim reality of political repression or ethnic cleansing as practiced in so many parts of the world stems from a gap which goes beyond ignorance. Most Americans simply cannot imagine or conceive of a situation in which due process becomes totally irrelevant, the forces of coercion run rampant, and the abstract notion of "rights" means absolutely nothing.

Understandable in a way. Until you've actually seen it happen, it is hard to imagine what it actually means.
