Jacq, I was half right and half wrong before. Honda was using Panasonic D cells early on in testing in their prototypes. Since then they have been deciding between Sanoh's batteries and Sanyo's batteries. Sanoh and Sanyo are the only other battery companies in Japan who can sell hybrid batteries. I'm not sure exactly who they have chosen. On the one hand Sanoh already has a working relationship with Honda, they have been working with Honda on their C cell bike battery for several years on the other Sanyo has more production. Either way it's 3% to ECD. I figure it's about $1200 of batteries per pack or $36 per car in royalties. Fred whats the price of a D cell in Japan these days, about $6?
