It all depends on your time frame. Because you referenced the spikes I
assumed you were talking longer term. The bottom line is it is in a uptrend(for me) because:

1.) The stock is higher then it started out the year out at.
2.) The stock is making higher lows.
Dec verses Oct
Jan.verses Dec
Feb.verses Jan
3.) The stock is above it's 13 week EMA. Which it violated today but bounced. Quite often that M/A acts as support/Resistence.
I use it as a stop but it has to close below it for me to sell.
Maybe Monday.

FTEL/FCM: Of course they are the same stock. The manipulation may be less but the company (and what the market "sees" as fair value)
is the same.
