Earl Mason, Compaq's Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, reported that the shortfall was primarily associated with the North American commercial market, where Compaq is taking additional pricing actions to meet very competitive conditions.

E.M., April 9, 1999 -

"The quarter's shortfall reflects lower than anticipated market demand and increased competitive pricing in the commercial PC sector," said Earl Mason, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
